Rangitikei Champs

April 23rd 2018

The Rangitikei Champs held in Marton on 20-21 April saw the very first TSNZ Indoor match held on electronic targets.

The 8-mound range hosted 67 shooters over the 2 days, and everything ran extremely smoothly.  The Range Officer controlled the targets and match timing from a main PC so there was nothing extra for the shooters to do – except to remember not to take their scopes into the range.

With no paper targets to change or mark, the man-power needed to run the Champs was way less than normal. The time needed for change-over of squads was much shorter, and squads moved through very quickly.  The results were out even before each squad walked out of the range, and presentations could be done as soon as the Final was completed.

Having the big screen TV in the social area was a great bonus, and saw many interested shooters and supporters gathering around, watching as every shot landed.  Finally, shooting is a spectator sport!

Many thanks to Nick and Julie (from Shooting Stuff, the suppliers of the targets) who came for the weekend to support Marton Club in case of any dramas.  The fact that they ended up bored with nothing to do has to be a good sign of how well everything went.
