Manawatu Champs 2019

July 22nd 2019

Manawatu Open 2019

Entries were down slightly on the last couple of years, and Air Rifle was down with only 6 entries.

Some familiar faces were missing from this year’s Champs due to illness but there were some new faces we have not seen before.  Welcome to the Manawatu Champs people, and we hope to see you back at the North Island Champs in September.

Shania Harrison-Lee will be glad she made the trip up, taking out both the Master Grade and the Open.

Local lad Martin Hunt had his hands on the 100.10 jackpot of $110.00 when he shot 100.10 on his last card on Friday night but Shania shot 100.10 on her first card so they had to share.  Manawatu starts off the pot with $100.00 each time but it seems to be struck nearly every Champs lately.

Local Shooter, recent import Jeanette Kinsey won the A Grade and the rising star from Dannevirke Stephanie McNair won C Grade with a score of 297.19 which put her into the Top 10 and then re-entered B Grade and took that out as well.

Jolie Carter from Te Awamutu won the D Grade then re-entered and came second in the C Grade along with David Carter who came third in both.

In the Handicap Teams it was no surprise that Dannevirke took out the Title with Stephanie and Ruth shooting so well.

Again the Handicap Pairs featured Stephanie and Ruth with the new D Graders Jolie and David second.

Owen Bennett retained his hold on the Men’s Air Rifle Trophy with Aidan having to leave early.  Local shooter Meaghan Reesby held on to a slender lead over Jess Burgess-Smith to take the Women’s Trophy.

Thanks to all those that helped at the Champs, especially Alison Fursdon who ran the Air Champs.
