Canterbury Champs

December 16th 2019

Canterbury Championships - 14/15 December 2019

It was great to see a keen interested group of shooters attend the Canterbury Champs at the Mcleans Island Range on 14/15 December. As usual there were a few different conditions on offer across the range to shoot on, but for the early risers they had the pick of the best weather - although at times challenging just to keep everyone on their toes.

Shooters travelled from all over for the event, which saw a number of locals attend, the Hunt's travelled down from Palmerston North, and others from all corners of the South Island.  29 shooters in total enjoying the weekends events - with 3 position, benchrest and prone on offer.

It was great to see a number of shooters newer to 50m come and experience the match conditions, as well as several people give benchrest a go.  The 3 position and prone championship events were both designated matches on the TSNZ calendar.

Additional target changers on the range meant that 22 mounds could operate for prone and up to six mounds for benchrest.  It was great to see the shooters enjoying several modifications made recently to the range by club members.

The prone final at the end of Sunday's matches created a bit of interest (and laughter) as the lunchtime conditions were extremely challenging as the sun, heat and wind were all in fine form.

A special thank you to all of the helpers over the weekend that ensured the weekend ran very smoothly with minimal disruption.

Well done to all that had PB's, place getters that took home trophies / cash, or the lucky contestant prizes.
