2021 Australian National Championships
(As at 31.7.20)
Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) remains a major international concern and continues to have a major impact on sporting events and the economy globally. The health and well-being of Target Rifle Australia members, officials, volunteers, staff and all stakeholders is always our highest consideration when scheduling events in Australia and this matter is heightened due to the continuing situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Board of Directors assures everyone that planning and delivery of next year’s 2021 TRA National Championships is continuing and that, at this stage, the 2021 TRA National Championships will proceed as scheduled, from Wednesday 31st March - Monday 5th April 2021 at Shepparton Small Bore and Air Rifle Club, Pine Lodge Recreation Reserve, 1127 New Dookie Road, Pine Lodge, Victoria.
However, it is important to note that this decision is dependent on decisions and actions outside TRA Ltd.’s control, which may be taken by either the Australian Federal Government or the Victorian State Government in respect to the possible closure of sporting venues.
In saying that, the Board of Directors encourages members intending to travel and participate in the 2021 TRA National Championships to take the necessary precautions with respect to their own and others’ health and safety when travelling to and engaging in the event.
Consequently, due to the current and ongoing situation with the covid-19 pandemic, border and movement restrictions, a final decision to proceed, postpone, relocate or cancel the 2021 TRA Nationals will be made by 30th November 2020.
For now, the schedule of events and flyer will be distributed as an Expression of Interest for those intending to participate. This document will be distributed as soon as it is finalised.
Member organisations are requested to distribute this communication throughout your affiliated club and member networks as soon as practically possible please.
If you have any questions or need any other information in relation to this matter, please contact me.

Congratulations to the 2018 Slazenger, Womens, and Junior Teams who shot their 50m Prone match at the TSNZ Outdoor Nationals in February this year – Australia have just held their TRA National Championships in Brisbane, and NZ had a win in ALL three sections!
The Slazenger match was incredibly close, with NZ’s winning margin only 1.3, this being after a 60-shot match for 20 shooters gaining over 1,200 points. The other teams had stronger wins, so well done to them all.
Congratulations also to Ross Lomas, who won Bronze in the C-Grade 50m Prone at the Aussie Nationals.
Only a small group of NZ shooters travelled to Brisbane this year to shoot, possibly due to the change in timing – the event is usually held over Easter but was later this year due to the Commonwealth Games. It’s a great event to go to whatever your Grade, the Australians are all very welcoming, and it’s always a fun week away. And yes, there WERE wallabies up on that hill behind the range!
The next Australian Nationals will be in Perth over Easter 2019, so if you’'ve been looking for a reason to head west, here it is. Keep an eye out on our website for information, which will be posted as it becomes available from Target Rifle Australia.
