Bruce Cameron given Taranaki Life Membership

by | Mar 18, 2026 | Indoor, News

The Taranaki Smallbore Rifle Association is proud to announce and celebrate the awarding of Life Memberships to Bruce Cameron and Paula Cameron.
Bruce has been a dedicated member of the Hāwera club since his early teenage years, beginning his shooting journey at just 13 years old—over 50 years ago. Progressing quickly through the grades, Bruce reached Master Grade, where he has remained for many years. In more recent years, transitioning from prone shooting to shooting off the table has not slowed his performance or determination.
Bruce’s shooting achievements are extensive. He has represented Hāwera, Taranaki, the North Island, and New Zealand with distinction, including:
• Member of the Taranaki NDC Team
• Over 40 years in the Taranaki Team of 10
• Representation in North Island Open, Men’s, and Veteran Teams
• Represented New Zealand in Open, Men’s, and Veteran Teams
Beyond his personal shooting success, Bruce has given an incredible amount back to the sport. His service includes:
• Over 30 years as President of the Hāwera club
• 25 years as President of the Taranaki Association
• 8 years on the New Zealand Executive
• Current North Island Team Selector
• Taranaki Police Liaison Officer
Bruce brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and a practical, common-sense approach that has greatly benefited our shooting community.
Bruce is part of a proud family legacy, representing the second generation of Camerons, with three generations currently shooting for Hāwera—something captured in one of the photos accompanying this post.
Alongside Bruce stands an equally important figure—his wife, Paula. While not a shooter herself, Paula has been a constant and valued supporter of both Bruce and the wider Taranaki shooting community. From working behind the scenes to helping in the kitchen and supporting events, her contribution has been invaluable.
Clubs and communities thrive because of people like Bruce and Paula. Together, they have played a huge role in shaping what Taranaki shooting is today.
We congratulate them both on this well-deserved honour and thank them for their outstanding service and dedication.

Kind Regards

Katrina Arthur
