Dewar Match – 3 October 2024

by | Mar 3, 2025 | News

A Dewar Match is to be held at the 2025 TSNZ Nationals.

The Dewar Match is an annual postal smallbore prone rifle competition organised by the National Smallbore Rifle Association, UK. The Match was first contested in 1909.  Australia, Canada, Ceylon, Great Britain, New Zealand, South Africa, and the USA have, at some point, competed for the Lord Dewar Cup.  New Zealand last competed in 1994, but following on from the success of holding the women’s dual range Randle Match for the past four years, after 31 years we are now looking to reinstate shooting the Dewar at our TSNZ Outdoor Nationals, starting with 2025 in Tokoroa.

The course of fire is a Single Dewar which is 20 shots at 50 yards and 20 shots at 100 yards,  shot outdoors on NSRA approved targets.  Each team has 20 shooters and two reserves, and is an Open (i.e. mixed gender) team.  A Captain and Manager are also appointed.  The team must shoot the Match together on the same range on the same day, and may be coached.   Shooting positions and equipment must comply with NSRA rules, which are equivalent to TSNZ Indoor Rules.
