by | Mar 3, 2025 | News

It is with sadness we inform you of the passing of John McKenzie Stuart on 20th December 2024 aged 86 years young. Husband of Margaret, father of Anne Gaddes, Ian Stuart and Ruth McNair.

John started shooting at the Marton Smallbore Rifle Club in 1958, and later for RR&G. After shifting to Te Kuiti in 1980, and finding no range to shoot at, he instigated the beginning of the Waitomo Smallarms Society. Later, moving to Levin, he joined the Ohau Club until he could no longer shoot due to his failing eyesight. He did however continue to enjoy the successes of his family in the sport, including his grandchildren Kerrin Stuart, Lachie, Steph and Caley McNair.

John has undertaken numerous roles within the sport including coaching, admin roles, association delegate, North Island selector, range officer (including chief RO for smallbore and air rifle at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland).
