Harassment-Free Sport

Target Shooting NZ is committed to providing a harassment-free environment where all people involved in target shooting are treated with respect and dignity and can contribute and participate to their full potential.  This benefits athletes, coaches, officials and TSNZ.

In brief, harassment is any unwelcome comment, conduct or gesture directed towards an individual or group of individuals which is insulting, intimidating, humiliating, malicious, degrading or offensive, and is either repeated or of such a significant nature that it affects someone’s performance, contribution or sports environment.

Please read the TSNZ Harassment-Free Sport Policy and Procedures document for a full definition of what is, or is not, harassment.

Anyone who feels they are being harassed, or has been accused of causing harassment, has several courses of action available to them.  These vary from self-help and informal options to more formal approaches.

TSNZ has a group of Harassment-Free Sport Contact People who can be approached for advice about the steps that can be taken to make the situation better for everyone.  The Contact Person you choose can be any who is most suitable for the issue; it doesn’t have to be the one living closest to you, and someone further away may actually be better in some cases.

These Harassment-Free Sport Contact People will provide support and guide a harassed or accused person through the processes as outlined in the TSNZ Harassment-Free Sport Policy.  They don’t investigate the complaint, won’t make judgment on any person or situation, and will excuse themselves from any situation where they may have a personal connection.

Everyone involved in target shooting through TSNZ has the right to enjoy their chosen sport without harassment.  In the unfortunate event that this doesn’t happen, both parties to a complaint are able to access the support of the Contact People above in strict confidentiality.  Clubs or Associations who have become aware of an issue relating to their Members that they may want advice on are also able to access the Contact People.
