On 12 August 2016 NZSF provided an indication there could be a Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships conducted late in 2017.   This is likely to take the place of the 2017 Oceania competition, and will be a "shake-down" event for the Commonwealth Games venue.

As NZSF members have Designated Matches commencing in August that will be taken into consideration for this event, NZSF have listed a tentative criteria on the NZSF Web Site to let athletes know which events will be taken into consideration.
