Leon Griebel's funeral

March 18th 2018

 

Leon Griebel's funeral service is at 1pm, Wednesday 21st March, at the Mayfield Chapel, cnr Hutcheson and Parker Streets, Blenheim.

Leon passed away peacefully at Ashwood Park Retirement Village, with his wife by his side, on Friday March 16, 2018, aged 79 years.  Loved husband of Noelene, loved father, father-in-law, step-father, grandad and great-grandad.

Leon was elected Life Member of TSNZ in 2014 after a lifetime of service to TSNZ.

One of Leon’s greatest services to TSNZ was as a roving Coach who travelled all over New Zealand to Associations, clubs and coaching seminars starting in 2000.  Many of our younger shooters (and not so young) have benefited from Leon’s easy going style to get his message across.  Although there was not much written down, many who attended his coaching sessions took notes and have passed his message on.

He was also a long-time coach of the Junior Development Squad and through his efforts, along with the other coaches, developed a number of our promising Junior shooters.

South Island Open Team: 40 times starting in 1971 (still a Record)

Captain South Island Team: 2003, 2005 and 2013 his 40th year

New Zealand Open Team: 25 times starting in 1972

Winner of the BSA Shield & Medal: 1983

Outdoor Representation:

Outdoor South Island Team: 35 times starting 1970

Dewar Team: 1971

Slazenger Team: 11 times starting 1978

Oceania Team; A Team in 1984 at Christchurch with Brian Lacey and Stephen Petterson.

Commonwealth Games: 1982 at Brisbane Australia in 50m Prone
